Its construction is traditionally set between 1260 and 1265 but, given the presence of the castle of Pierre de Savoie and the choice of Evian as an administrative center it would be surprising that its origin was not higher during the thirteenth century. A papal bull mentions a religious edifice in 1250, under the name of "Blessed Mary in her Assumption" (Girod). Dating can still be backward in the first quarter of this century, with the presence of Jean Chapelain d'Eviant, during a donation to the abbot of Aulps, in 1218.
